Lions Walk (Taupo)

This is a family friendly, shared-use path (walkers, runners and cyclists) with a number of picnic areas, swimming opportunities, rest areas and toilets.
The Five Mile Bay section of the track is part of the Great Lake Walkway, and is also known as the Lion's Walk.
Continuing on from the track at Wharewaka Point, it follows a paved pathway along the water's edge passing the amenity area and carpark, and on to the residential area at Tawhaa Street. (5 mile bay)
At the end of the residential area, the paved pathway ends and becomes the Awaroa Track. This track continues along the lake edge, passing a wetland and crossing a small stream until reaching the settlement of Waitahanui.

To enjoy the entire trail, the starting point is from the Taupo Boat Harbor, then along the lake front passing 2 mile bay, Rainbow and Wharewaka point.
The trail can be started from any point along the route. Access is via Tongariro Street, Lake Terrace or State Highway 1.
